Psalm 62 NLT

Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge. (5-8)

I love the way David responds to those who would try to attack him and come against him. “Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him” is his response. Whenever we face difficulties, whether it be with other people or just with our circumstances in general, we tend to want to “do something.” Yet, David says the most important thing for him was to “do nothing.” His response was to let everything he was—mind, soul, and body—wait quietly before God. He was the king, he had armies and resources at his disposal as well, yet his response was to “wait quietly before God.”

This is an important reminder to us type-A people who want to fix everything and solve all the problems. To quote David, “our victory and honor come from God alone.” Yes, there is a time to “do” something—but only what He tells you to do. He is the only refuge we have and we are implored by David to trust in the Lord at ALL times; not just when we have exhausted all other avenues open to us. We typically lean into God when we have tried again and again and failed. What if we started with prayer? What if we let everything we are, everything we have, and everything we know just “wait quietly before our God?” Often, being still and being patient before the Lord is the most difficult and the most productive thing we can do. Truly trusting Him means being willing to wait as long as it takes for Him to answer.
