I have told the glad news of deliverance in the great congregation; behold, I have not restrained my lips, as you know, O Lord. I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart; I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation; I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness from the great congregation. (9-10)
When God does a fantastic thing in your life, it is impossible to keep quiet about it. David recounts a time of miraculous deliverance when God rescued him from a pit of miry clay and set his feet on a rock. We do not know if the deliverance was physical or spiritual, but we know that David was grateful. He was so grateful that he was moved to thankfulness. His thankfulness was so great that he had to share it with anyone who would listen. He was drawn to those who would appreciate it the most, the great congregation of Israel. David, the king, becomes David, the worshipper who wants all the followers of God to know the depths of God’s love and faithfulness to those who serve Him.
Like David, we who serve the Lord have been delivered from a miry pit. God, in His grace, reached down from heaven, pulled you from your sin and despair, and set your feet on a firm foundation in Christ. This deliverance is not something that should remain hidden in your heart. On the contrary, it should be spoken loudly and recounted often. Don’t conceal the steadfast love and faithfulness of the Lord from other believers because they, too, will rejoice in your deliverance and will be encouraged by your testimony. Even more so, we dare not conceal it from the lost in the world, who are currently sinking lower and lower into the same pit. There is hope. A loving and faithful deliverer is ready to rescue those who call on His name. Spread the glad news; tell it often and tell it well.
