There are qualities called the Immanence and Transcendence of God that are so important as we walk with Him. Simply put, God is BIG… bigger than we can ever imagine. He is beyond time, space and all other constructs of man. He is eternal, He is omnipotent, He is omniscient, He is omnipresent. Yet, this big, incredible, “beyond our understanding” God is also personal and deeply involved in every detail of your life. No text better demonstrates this than Psalm 18.

David writes about God’s deliverance in the most majestic means possible. “Then the earth shook and quaked; the foundations of the mountains trembled; they shook because he burned with anger.  Smoke rose from his nostrils, and consuming fire came from his mouth; coals were set ablaze by it. He bent the heavens and came down, total darkness beneath his feet… He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he pulled me out of deep water. He rescued me from my powerful enemy and from those who hated me, for they were too strong for me. They confronted me in the day of my calamity, but the Lord was my support. He brought me out to a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.” 7-9, 16-19

Likely, the intervention of God in David’s life was not quite that visibly dramatic. I am sure that when David says, “He shot his arrows and scattered them; he hurled lightning bolts and routed them. The depths of the sea became visible, the foundations of the world were exposed.” 14-15, he was speaking in figurative terms 😊.  However, in reality, the God of the universe took time from all that was going on to focus on this one individual. Yes, David was the king, but still, in the scope of the cosmos, he was just a speck. God cared so deeply about him that He intervened in His life in a dramatic and personal way. God doesn’t have to shift His focus away from things to focus on us; He’s God. He can be intimately involved in everything at the same time. The point, though, is that He IS intimately involved in your life and He cares about every detail of it. Just like David, “He delights in you” and this God who is greater than we can ever comprehend is more personal and more tuned in to you and your needs than you will ever realize. He transcends all of eternity and stoops to connect with you in a personal and meaningful way… He is there, and He loves you.
